Throughout my life, I‘ve always gravitated towards technology. My mom recalls an early memory of me sitting at a computer station at a YMCA, happily following a prompt, long before I started school. I can't say I remember that, but I do remember the countless hours I spent tinkering with computers and software throughout my early years.
From creating a hobby site at 12, to writing prolific software in my 30's, my passion for understanding the intricacies of how things fit together and enable human connectivity has always been a driving force in my life.
Ever subscribed to something online? As one of ReCharge Payments first employees, I contributed and spearheaded the development of software that has become a prolific, yet unassuming component used in many of today's online shopping experiences. From subscription widgets, to user portals and customized checkout experiences, the features I developed serve as a testament to my love for creating meaningful and impactful solutions.
During my time, ReCharge had raised over 200 million in funding, reaching a valuation of over 2 billion dollars, and has become a leader in the subscription space. From 5 employees to 500, and from a small and cramped office in Santa Monica to one of the best examples of remote work culture spanning the globe.
Although normally enigmatic, my approach to software development often settles on two paths: a heuristic one used in rapid prototyping, useful in the initial phase of software development when trying to assess solutions and test ideas and subscribes to the fail fast and often school of thought.
The other is more of a methodical approach, where I immerse myself in my work, deep-diving to disassemble and reassemble components of whatever problem or feature until I can navigate its complexities with natural ease. This approach has often allowed me to come up with solutions to more complex problems needing more sustainable solutions. It's in my ability to switch quickly between these methods that I have helped companies build and iterate and scale many successful products.
But I think back to years before my career as an engineer, as a multimedia artist, where I took advantage of an opportunity to travel with local bands and musicians and other artists across the country. This experience installed in me a deep love and appreciation for new experiences and connections with people of different backgrounds. From memorable, if not chaotic performances to sublime and scenic drives, I began to idolize the idea of braving new experiences and self-discovery, something that continues to drive me in both my work and personal life.
Today, I find myself immersed in a myriad of artistic projects, each evolving as I tend to them with care. Layering my love of technology, new found appreciation of machine learning, and interests in travel, music, and art. I eagerly await the moment when these creative endeavors coalesce, ultimately taking shape, hopefully, as unique and captivating creations.
For now, I find joy in my hermetic life on the road, traveling between states and cities, exploring new places, sampling diverse cuisines, engaging in banter with locals.
All of it keeps me inspired while working for Silo, a startup working to build software solutions for the produce industry, all while we tackle challenges such as food waste and logistical inefficiencies.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
